Getting around Gibraltar City
By Walking
Gibraltar is small, so getting around on foot is easy. Be aware that some of the roads, especially the ones leading up to the Rock can be steep. While in town or the top of the cabl-car station, you can explore on foot.
By Bus
There is a frequent and very affordable bus system and you can buy both single tickets as well as day tickets. An all-day ticket for the Gibraltar Bus Company costs around £2.50 and you pay on the bus with either cash, card, or contactless payment.
Bus no. 9 or 10 will take you into the center of town or to the base of the funicular station, where you’ll be taken”upstairs” to see the major attractions of the “rock nation,” all of which tower over Gibraltar.
By Car
If you decide to rent a car to get to Gibraltar, expect long delays due to the border crossing. You can avoid crossing the border by car and park in Spain to walk across the border to Gibraltar. The FoCana car park is less than a 5-minute walk to the border and walking into Gibraltar takes just a few short minutes. As you walk into Gibraltar, you will pass a bus stop with buses that will take you into the center of town.
By Taxi
The most convenient way to explore the Rock is in a taxi. The drivers know the terrain well and can easily navigate the twisting, narrow streets. Many of these taxi drivers act as a tour guide and will take you to all the major attractions. With a minimum of four passengers, these tours last about 1.5 hours.
Taxis can be found at the stands at the Gibraltar/La Linea frontier or in the center of town at such points as Cathedral Square, Coach Park, Casemates, and Piazza-Town Center.
By Cable Car
The cable car that takes you to a beautiful lookout point at the top of The Rock is more than an attraction in itself, this is an efficient way to travel. The cable car costs around £8 round trip for adults and around £4.50 round trip for children over 7. Children 6 and under travel free. There will be an extra charge of around £8 should you wish to enter the attractions on the Upper Rock.

Nearly all of Gibraltar`s population lives in `the city`, which locals call `Westside` since the populated areas are almost exclusively on the western side of the peninsula. The southernmost point of Gibraltar (and on the Iberian Peninsula) is Europa Point. St. Michael`s Cave is located in the interior, inside the Rock of Gibraltar. Catalan Bay Beach, the most popular beach, is located on the northeastern coast.
When is the best time to visit Gibraltar?
It is recommended that you visit Gibraltar in the autumn, when conditions are a tad drier than the summer and temperatures aren`t as hot. This is also a good time to enjoy cheaper pricing for accommodations. Because Gibraltar typically stays in the 60s Fahrenheit during the day in the wintertime, it is also common for tourists to visit in winter, although it is the rainy season. Temperatures can and do rise into the 90s during the summertime, which is the traditional high season.
How many days should I spend Gibraltar?

What is the best way to get around Gibraltar?
The best way to see Gibraltar is by bus. The buses are run by the Gibraltar Bus Company, and there are nine bus routes that reach all corners of the small peninsula. Two of the bus routes (#5 and #10) run from the airport to the rest of the peninsula, while bus route #1 is the `midtown loop`, running between Market Place and Willis`s Road. The route to reach Europa Point is bus route #2. Adult day passes for Gibraltar buses cost £2.50. You can also take taxis; there are seven taxi stands in Gibraltar, with the largest being at the `frontier`, the area just north of Gibraltar Airport and just south of the Spanish border, and at Casemates between Casemates Square Shopping Mall and the International Commercial Centre. Flagfall is approximately £2 and each kilometer (0.6 miles) costs roughly £1.50 more, and you shouldn`t pay more than £15 to reach any point in Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Taxi Association offers 4-5 stop tours of the peninsula and you can ask your taxi driver about it when you are at the taxi stand (minimum 4 people typically, at approximately £35 per person, with a length of 75 to 90 minutes).
What is the currency of Gibraltar?
The currency of Gibraltar is the Gibraltar pound (written like the British pound, with the symbol £). Both Gibraltar pounds and British pound sterling are legal tender and are worth the exact same amount when spending in Gibraltar. Euros are not legal tender but are accepted in many businesses. Be warned, the exchange rate used by shops will not be as favorable as the exchange rate you will get if you trade Euros for Gibraltar pounds. Just be sure that you spend any Gibraltar pounds while you are in Gibraltar because it will be difficult to exchange these in any other country except the United Kingdom.
