Getting around Yerevan
By Marshrutka (Minivan)
Marshrutka (minus) is the main way to get around town. There are more than a hundred of these minibus routes that crisscross the city and travel to the suburbs and beyond. The buses are often overcrowded, and you may find yourself standing during rush hour. The route number is displayed in the window, along with Armenian text listing the major landmarks and streets of the route. When you want to get off, you should say “kangnek” or “ijnokh ka” for the driver to hear, or else, just say “stop” in English.
By Bus or Trolleybus
Yerevan has lots of buses and a few trolley lines, operated by Yergotrans. The fare is inexpensive and the vehicles are not too crowded. Pay when leaving a bus or trolley.
Buses and minivans are the major means of transportation. From Yerevan, you can get pretty much everywhere in Armenia within a day.
By Metro
Yerevan metro is a convenient, inexpensive, and quick way to move around the city. It runs from 7am to 11pm. You never have to wait any more than 15 minutes for a train.
By Taxi
Taxis are all over the city and almost all taxis with company names on the sides have meters, and prices tend to be competitive among taxi companies. To flag an empty taxi down on the street, just hold your arm out and pat your hand in the air, if they are free they will stop.
GG Taxi is a local Armenian taxi app similar to Uber or Bolt. It’s a great app, user-friendly, and local to the area.
Shared taxis are larger cars that hold up to five passengers. They tend to drive shorter distances and leave when they have a full car. You can find shared taxi locations marked on Maps.me.
By Walking
The center of Yerevan is very compact and easy to get around by foot.

Yerevan FAQ
How do I get from the airport to my hotel?
The Yerevan Airport, Zvartnot International Airport, is located about 25 minutes from the city center. If you haven’t booked a private transfer with us, you have a couple of options.
One of the best options and most affordable is taking the Airport Express shuttle bus that goes to and from Yerevan city center to the Avartnot Airport daily, the Shuttle Bus #100. The bus departs every 30 minutes from 7 am until 10 pm, and every hour from 10 pm to 7 am daily. After arriving at Avartnots International Airport, you must exit the arrivals area on the ground floor. You will immediately see a sign that says ‘Express Bus’ and it will guide you in between where the taxi stand is and the regular parking lot. The bus ride is about 40 minutes to the city center.
Another option is a taxi. There is a taxi stand at the airport called Aerotaxi. You can also download a Yerevan taxi app, such as GG Taxi or Yandex Taxi (these work similarly to Uber), and order a taxi from the app. The price will fluctuate based on the demand and traffic.
How do I get around in Yerevan?
The city center is compact and pedestrian-friendly. Walking is a great way to get around and allows you to appreciate the architecture and atmosphere on the streets as well as the main sights. However, the city does have a good transportation network.
The city metro system is useful and very affordable. You can simply buy one-use tokens for each journey you take.
There are also marshrutkas (minivans) and buses that run around the city and are distinguishable by numbers displayed on their windscreens. These can be more difficult to navigate simply because nothing is in English and the drivers are unlikely to speak English. However, if you know the number you need to catch then they are extremely affordable way to get around.
Taxis are easily available for local transport. GG and Bolt are popular taxi apps, similar to Uber. Local Armenians may not speak English, so using the app-based taxi service makes sense.
When is the best time to visit?
The best time to visit Yerevan is in the summer months, from June until August, although the weather is usually good until September. This is when the weather is warm, reaching the high 80’s F. May and June are relatively wet months in Armenia though so July and August are most popular with tourists. This is also when you’ll find prices tend to peak as do crowds at popular sights.
September and October are great months to visit, when the weather is still pleasant but the crowds have gone and the prices tend to lower a little. Towards the end of October, the weather starts to get cool. Spring in April and May also have relatively nice weather although they tend to be rainy months too, so Fall is best.
Winters (December – February) can get cold, with temperatures dropping as low as 14°F at times.
I will have a car in Yerevan, where can I park?
Street parking is designated by red dotted lines, and you’ll need to pay for parking within these areas, with rates varying by zone (a and B) and time of day. You can also consider parking in underground garages under Freedom Square.
