Getting around Soberania National Park
By Walking Trails
All access is via trail; there is no shuttle services within the park. The key trails:
Pipeline Road (11 miles) – A flat, easy gravel route ideal for walking, biking, and birdwatching.
Plantation Trail (2 miles one way) – A gentle slope with scenic waterfalls, rich biodiversity, benches, and distance markers.
Camino de Cruces – Historic colonial trail with cobblestones, following part of the old Camino Real.
El Charco Trail – This is a short and easy trail with natural pools.
By Guided Tours
Guided tours are a great way to get around with expert insight. For exploring Pipeline Road and other less accessible areas, a private driver with a 4×4 vehicle, or a guided tour with transportation, is the best way to get to the unpaved and potentially rough roads.

Pipeline Road and Plantation Trail are cyclist-friendly.
Getting There
To reach Soberania National Park, take Av. Omar Torrijos towards Gamboa. Once you reach the fork in the road, you’ll be in front of the administrative office. From this point, you can decide whether to continue Av. Omar Torrijos or take Carr. Madem, depending on the trail you want to explore.
If you are using public transportation, take a local bus from the Albrook Transportation Terminal. Buses going to Chilibre and Bahia D have stops in front of the park’s administrative center.

How do I get to Soberania?

Yes, however, the entrance fee varies. For foreigners, it’s about $5 for children and $10 for adults, students are about $1. Some trails may be free or have separate charges for guides or facilities.

The are no food vendors inside the park. Nearby, there are a few restaurants in Gamboa and in the Gamboa Rainforest Resort.
What is the weather like?
December to April is the dry season and is considered the best time to visit. The bird watching season is November to March for migratory birds. Early morning is always the best time for spotting wildlife.
Are there restrooms and facilities?
Restrooms are available at the park entrances and the discovery center. Some trails have picnic tables and basic facilities.
Is it safe to visit the park?
Yes, Soberania is safe for visitors. Stay on marked trails, wear proper shoes, and avoid hiking alone.
Is there cell phone service or Wi-Fi?
There is limited signal inside the park and no public Wi-Fi. We recommend downloading offline maps if needed.
What should I do if I need medical assistance or need to go to the hospital?
Dial 911 for Panama ambulance, medical, police, and fire services. If cellular service is not available, flag down a taxi and head to the nearest clinic or hospital.
Panama City (about 30 minutes away) offers private hospitals and clinics, many with English-speaking staff. In Gamboa, there are smaller clinics with limited capabilities, best for non-critical care.
