Uvita Centro (The Highway Town) This practical, bustling community is the commercial core of the area, located directly along the main Costanera Sur highway. This is not the beach town itself, but rather the functional heart where you’ll find the major banks, supermarkets, pharmacies, and local businesses. Here you can experience daily life, eat at affordable local restaurants known as “sodas,” and access essential services. While it lacks the tourist-focused charm of the beach road, staying here is often more budget-friendly and convenient for long-term stays or for those relying on public transportation.

Bahía – The Beach Road For those seeking the heart of Uvita’s tourist life, the Bahía neighborhood is the prime location. This area comprises the main road that branches off the highway and leads directly to the entrance of the Marino Ballena National Park. It has a laid-back, visitor-friendly vibe and is highly walkable. Here you will find a great selection of tour operators for whale watching, cozy cafes, international restaurants, hostels, and boutique hotels. Staying in Bahía means you are just a short stroll from the famous “Whale’s Tail” sandbar and the tranquil waters of the national park.

The Hills of Uvita For a more exclusive and serene escape, the hills rising above Uvita offer a breathtaking experience. This area is defined by its lush rainforest canopy, spectacular panoramic ocean views, and a cooler, more private atmosphere. Here you will find luxury villas, high-end eco-lodges, and boutique hotels, many with infinity pools overlooking the iconic Whale’s Tail. Staying in the hills provides incredible opportunities for wildlife sightings, but it is not walkable and requires a 4×4 vehicle to navigate the steep roads to access the town and beaches below.

Playa Hermosa (North Uvita) Located just a five-minute drive north of Uvita Centro, Playa Hermosa is a long, beautiful stretch of sandy beach that offers a more classic, undeveloped beach experience. It is a favorite spot for both locals and surfers, with consistent waves that are great for learning and intermediate skill levels. Hermosa is a much quieter alternative to the main park beach and has no entrance fee. The area offers a blend of being conveniently close to the amenities of Uvita while providing a more relaxed and spacious setting for sunbathing, surfing, and enjoying the sunset.
