Falling for Fall Foliage Around the World

Falling for Fall Foliage Around the World
Fall foliage in Buen Retiro Park, Madrid, Spain.

If, like us, when you think of fall foliage you picture romantic landscapes in New England, crisp air, warm apple cider, pumpkin patches, and scarves, well … you aren’t wrong. But let Tripmasters expand your vision. Try imagining lush wine valleys in Napa, California, and Idaho (no, we aren’t kidding), or charming cities in the Blue Ridge or the Rocky Mountains, such as Asheville or Aspen.

Better yet, go global (pictured above is the Buen Retiro Park in Madrid, Spain). Fall foliage in shades of brilliant gold, burnt orange, deep crimson, and buttery yellow can be found in such fantastic cities as Tokyo, Edinburgh, and Torres del Paine in season.

Stowe, VT

As mentioned, New England is the gold standard when travelers crave clean and crisp autumn air and the kaleidoscope of colors that fall ushers in (pictured is Stowe, VT if you absolutely need proof!). Again, we understand and applaud the well-deserved reputation. However, at Tripmasters we love to bring attention to and celebrate alternatives to the tried-and-true favorites. Here we will highlight more cities or areas for you to consider alongside traditional staples. Mull them over, then get to planning your vacation at Tripmasters!

It is our experience that travelers often overlook international destinations when it comes to autumnal festivities, except perhaps the wide and tree-lined boulevards of Paris or London (which, for the record, you absolutely should visit in the fall). However, many international cities and areas have enchanting parks, mountain retreats, large open plains, and rich vineyards, so doesn’t it make sense these places would also have some of the most dazzling displays of changing foliage? Pictured is the beautiful Scottish Highlands transitioning from its trademark emerald hue to deep reds, oranges, and yellows. In addition, the places we highlight below offer travelers access to world-class museums, exciting festivals and traditions, outdoor activities from hiking to golf, excellent cuisine, and so much more. What else could you want?

Don’t forget, if you are considering any destination in the southern hemisphere, their fall season is flipped, so plan to visit between March and June to enjoy the fall foliage.

We truly hope we have opened your eyes to a world of possibilities. Perhaps you will consider pulling off TWO fall trips? Head to the southern hemisphere to enjoy the sights and activities between March and June, and then take advantage of fall in the northern hemisphere between September and December. We won’t blame you for wanting to experience it twice.
