1st: Old Town

This is the historic heart of Split, centered around the 1,700-year-old Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a lively, vibrant, and crowded area filled with narrow winding alleys and historical buildings. The Old Town is also home to a diverse array of restaurants, cafes, and bars.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Diocletian’s Palace, St Domnius Cathedral, Jupiter Temple, Split City Museum, the Riva Promenade, and the Golden Gate.

2nd: City Center

The area just outside the Old Town is referred to as Split’s modern-day city center. It is roughly broken down into two parts, Veli Varos and Gripe. Veli Varos was one of the first neighborhoods formed outside the Old Town, with the oldest buildings in the area dating from the eleventh century. Gripe is a historically significant neighborhood positioned to the northeast of the Old Town. Highlights of this neighborhood: Sustipan green space, ACI Marina Split, the Croatian Maritime Museum, Gripe Fortress, the Church and Monastery of St Francis, and the Arts Academy of the University of Split.

3nd: Bacvice

Bacvice is a lively neighborhood famous for its sandy beach and buzzing nightlife. It’s a short walk from the Old Town, offering a mix of coastal charm and urban energy. The beach is well-known for the traditional Croatian ball game of picigin, which is played in its shallow waters.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Bacvice Beach, open-air cinema, bars and clubs, and a vibrant dining scene.

4th: Marjan

The Marjan Peninsula, west of the Old Town, is one of the most beautiful areas of town. Marjan Forest Park is the largest green space in Split and has been called “the lungs of the city” by locals. The area is home to a world-renowned art gallery and scenic beaches.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Marjan Forest Park, the Mestrovic Gallery, Bene Beach, Kasjuni Beach, and Jezinac Beach.

5th: Poljud

This neighborhood is located north of the Old Town and includes the smaller sub-neighborhood of Lovret. The areas that make up the Poljud region are mixed commercial and residential, and serve as the bridge between the city center of Split and its suburbs. It is a major sports and cultural hub.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Split Predgrade train station, a large shopping mall, a casino, Spaladium Arena which hosts concerts, and Stadion Poljud.
