Seoul offers an extensive subway system that is fast, modern and cheap and runs from 5:30 am until midnight. Signs and announcements are made in English with fares starting around W1,350 or W1,250 with the T-money card. The subway is extremely crowded during rush hour times and should be avoided from 8 – 9 am and from 6 – 7 pm during the work week. The trains are color-coded and travel time between stations is usually 2 – 3 minutes, there is a subway station within a 10-minute walk from wherever you are in the city.
By Bus
Seoul`s bus system is a convenient and cheap way to travel around the city. The buses are color coded and travel different routes, most route information is not provided in English and most drivers only speak Korean. Blue buses travel long distances within the city limits and connect different districts, Green buses travel shorter distances within the city limits and connect with the subway stations, Yellow buses run a loop around the downtown area and Red buses travel to the outer suburbs. Tickets prices begin around W1,300 up to W2,400 depending on the bus and the total distance traveled. Buses run from 5:30 am until midnight and arrive every 5 – 15 minutes.
By Taxi
Taxis are plentiful in the city, most drivers speak English and the cost of a taxi is relatively inexpensive. You can catch a taxi at taxi stands located around the city, hail a taxi from the street or call and order a taxi by phone. Taxis are metered and generally cost between W2,800 – W3,000 for the first 1.25 miles and W100 for every eighth of a mile after that. Taxis that run from midnight to 4 am charge an extra 20%.
By Foot
Seoul is a large city made up of many different neighborhoods and districts making it an impossible city to explore on foot. Some of these areas are perfect for walking around and there are subway stations within a 10-minute walk from anywhere in the city. Walking around the popular street markets in Seoul is a great way to explore places such as Myeongdong and Dongdaemun which contain some of the largest markets areas in the country. Hiking in the mountain areas of Seoul can be a rewarding outdoor escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city and there are plenty of parks worth exploring on foot.
By Bicycle
There are many parks situated in the city that feature multiple bike paths perfect for cycling. You can rent bicycles in the parks and take a ride along the Han River. Cycling around different neighborhoods through the windy ancient alleyways is a great way to discover the city and its hidden treasures.

How do I get from the airport to my hotel?
The main airport servicing Seoul is the Incheon International Airport, located on Yeongjongdo Island which is the neighboring city of Incheon. Gimpo Airport is also located in Seoul but only services domestic flights and short-haul International shuttle flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Taipei, Shanghai, and Beijing. The two airports are connected to each other by AREX express trains and both connect to the Seoul Station.
If you have not booked a private transfer through us then you have plenty of options for transportation to get you from the airport to your hotel including express trains, buses, taxis and rental cars.
What types of transportation can I find at the airport?
The AREX express trains offer service from Incheon International Airport to Seoul Station with no stops along the way. The journey takes about 45 minutes with trains departing every 30 minutes from 5:20 am until 11:40 pm. The train station is located in the Transport Center which is situated across from the main terminal. Ticket prices cost approximately 8,000 won for adults and 6,900 won for children.
Another train operated by AREX is the All Stop Train offering service from the airport with stops at 12 subway stations including Cargo Terminal, Unseo, Cheogna International City, Geornam, Gyeyang, Gimpo International Airport, Digital Media City, Hongik University, Gongdeok and Seoul Station. Ticket prices are approximately 4,250 per adult, the journey takes approximately an hour and trains depart every 10 minutes from the main terminal.
Buses are available at the airport and start at 5:30 am and run until 10:00 pm. Buses depart every 10 – 30 minutes and the journey from the airport to downtown Seoul takes at least 90 minutes. Tickets cost approximately 8,000 won and can be purchased at the ticket booths outside 1F arrivals gate, bus routes and timetables can also be found here. The bus stops can be found outside the arrivals hall on the first floor.
Taxis are available at the airport, taxi ranks are found on the first floor outside the arrivals hall on 1F. There are two types of taxis available regular (grey) and deluxe (black), regular taxi prices cost approximately 40,000 won and deluxe cost around 65,000 won from the airport to downtown Seoul. Prices after midnight to 4:00 am increase by 20%
Rental cars are available at the airport offering reputable companies, the car rental building can be found near the long-term parking lot.

How do I call/hail a taxi?
Yellow and black taxis bear the letters `SP` (Servicio Público) on their front and rear and are plentiful with taxi ranks (parades in Catalan) all over town; or you can hail one on the street if its green light is on. Taxis have meters and the rate from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays starts at €2.15 and rises in increments of €1 every kilometer. The more expensive night rate starts at €3.30. There is a supplemental charge of €2.10 for trips to/from a train station and €4.20 for trips to/from the airport or the cruise port. There are official supplements of €1.20 per bag for luggage as well, and a €1.20 surcharge for a pre-ordered radio taxi. The T-Money transportation card is a rechargeable travel card that can be used for subway, buses and most taxi services in the city of Seoul. You can purchase the card at all subway stations and convenience stores in the city, and reload the card at the Ticket Vending and Card Reloading machines. The card costs ₩2,500 with a ₩500 refundable deposit, the card saves you around ₩100 off regular fares and you can transfer for up to 30 minutes between the subway and bus and bus to subway up to five times for no additional charge from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm.
Is Seoul a walking city?
Seoul is a very large city, walking around certain areas on foot is possible but exploring the whole city will require traveling onboard some type of public transportation. Should I rent a car in Seoul?
Renting a car in Seoul is not recommended, traffic is heavily congested in the city especially during rush hour when it comes to a total standstill. Parking spaces are limited and sometimes impossible to find and drivers can be reckless and impatient. Streets are hard to navigate and an international driving permit is required and drivers must be 21 or older. Renting a car is really not necessary due to the city`s excellent options for public transportation.
Is Seoul a dangerous city, is there anything I should be aware of?
Seoul is an exceptionally safe country and violent crime is almost unheard of. Be sure to use safe street smarts and keep your wits about you when visiting crowded tourist attractions, pickpockets are uncommon but it is advisable to keep your belongings close to you. Don`t wander into unpopulated area`s late at night, use caution when crossing the roads in Seoul as vehicles rarely stop for pedestrians.
What are some popular areas for shopping?
The capital city of Seoul is paradise for shopaholics! Some of the best shopping can be found in high-end department stores, mega shopping malls, boutiques and some of the largest traditional markets in South Korea. If you are looking for traditional Korean handicrafts then visit Insadong which has been a shopping and artist market for many years selling carved wood, paintings, paper goods and ceramics. Itaewon is a popular district for international shoppers with shops offering clothing and shoes with designer names at rock bottom prices. If you are looking to add to your art collection visit Samcheongdong which is famous for its galleries, artwork, antiques, and gemstones. What is the currency? Can I pay/tip in US dollars?
The official currency in Seoul is the Won (₩ or KRW) or Korean Republic Won. US dollars are not accepted. Please be sure to have the correct currency on hand and be prepared to exchange your dollars to Won upon arrival. Currency exchange desks can be found at the airport and bank locations through the city, ATM`s are widespread. ATM`s and CD`s (cash dispensers) can be found in major train and bus stations, department stores and banks throughout the city.

What is the food like?
Largely the cuisine offered in Seoul is mostly traditional Korean style food including rice, noodles, veggies and Korean barbecue. The city offers more places to eat per square mile than most other large cities in the world, Korean life revolves around food, it is not hard to find somewhere to eat here.
