One of our favorite things to do at Tripmasters is take an impromptu getaway. Whether we are escaping work stress, celebrating or reconnecting with our friends, visiting family, or just doing it for the ‘gram, we can find any reason to escape. The great thing about these quick weekends away is that you rarely even need to use your vacation time! Some of our suggestions may even be within driving distance for you.

What if we recharged ourselves as often as we did our phones?

With Tripmasters, it’s easy!

With so many options just a few short hours away there is no excuse to forgo that much-needed getaway. So check out our recommendations below and then go book your own weekend refresher.

The Southern States

Sunny, energetic, and captivating Miami is one of the most coveted getaway spots in the South, and we can see why! From the popular South Beach (one of the best urban beaches in the world) to the delicious Cuban food in Little Havana, and from the famed Art Deco architecture to the eye-catching street art, Miami is more than just a place to catch rays. With so much food, art, and culture, you could easily spend more than a weekend here!

Of course, we can’t recommend Miami without mentioning how easy it is to get to beautiful Key West, too! If you have more than just a weekend, combine the two for the ultimate getaway. You won’t be sorry!

We love the South for its food, its strong musical heritage, and its variety of terrain from the beaches of Florida to the Blue Ridge Mountains! Across the South, you will find cities that honor the best of their storied histories and embrace their weirdness. Of course, if you take a weekend getaway in the South, you absolutely have to indulge in local BBQ and craft beers, take in a live music show or an art fair, and enjoy the great outdoors!

The Mid-Atlantic States and the Northeast

For an American city steeped in history and tradition, Boston manages to balance its own modern culture beautifully! Naturally, we would recommend the Freedom Trail (a fun and short walk introducing visitors to major historic landmarks and moments), but with its famous seafood and breweries, the outdoor spaces such as Boston Common, its major sporting venue Fenway Park, museums, and (my personal favorite) the Boston Public Library, it doesn’t matter why you come to Boston, you will have more than enough to do!

The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions are known for their charming small towns and majestic fall foliage, but there are plenty of other reasons to visit, too! A weekend getaway here can be packed with culture and history, nature and adventure, whale watching, eating and drinking, shopping … and just about any other activity YOU want to do! See some more of our favorite getaway options below.

The Midwest and the Great Plains

We understand that many people look at the Midwest and the Great Plains and think “this is where people live but not where they vacation.” Oh boy, are those people ever wrong! With world-class theaters, beaches (yes!), beautiful state parks, national monuments, fantastic regional cuisine, and much, much more it is a shame more people don’t hit these wonderful and diverse cities.

Sprawling Chicago, situated along beautiful Lake Michigan, rises out of the earth in Illinois like a beacon for foodies, bibliophiles, theater lovers, sports fans, culture vultures, and every other type of traveler imaginable.

Make sure you check out beautiful Illinois Beach State Park, the Art Institute, Wrigley Field (Go Cubs!), Grant Park, and the “Magnificent Mile.” Try delicious Polish and Ukrainian food in the pocket neighborhoods and, of course, the famous deep dish pizza! We could sing its praises all day, but it would be better for you to see for yourself!

The West and Southwest

Gorgeous Santa Fe feels almost captured from another time. Located in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, its colonial architecture is a major trademark of the city (and is historically protected!). Don’t let the small-town charm fool you, though. Santa Fe is filled with cultural attractions such as the hilltop Santa Fe Opera House, the Museum of International Folk Art, and the New Mexico Museum of Art. Alongside its regional food, fantastic landscapes, and famous festivals, this gem is sure to keep you busy for 2, 3, 4, or more days!

We bet that when you picture these areas of the country you see dreamy desert escapes, national parks, and awesome food and wine? Trust us, we get it. There is so much to see, to do, to experience on the west coast and in the southwest. Check out some other great getaway options where you can pack a big punch into a few short days!

The United States is HUGE! That is part of what makes traveling here so much fun. No matter where you live, you are only a few short hours drive or a quick flight from somewhere fantastic. Our country’s diverse landscape and cultural pockets present endless opportunities for discovery; whether you want to go to a festival, visit museums, shop, enjoy nature, try new foods, craft beers, or wine, or simply lie out on some of the world’s best beaches, you aren’t short on options. At Tripmasters, we have something for everybody.

However, we can’t forget we have international neighbors who are just as close and just as accessible to us! So, if you feel the need to escape not just your house, but your city, your state, or even your country, look no further than exciting options in Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean! See our favorite places below.

From the pre-Hispanic and colonial-era landmarks to a contemporary and cosmopolitan sensibility, stunning Mexico City, MX holds its own against any other big city across the globe. Plus, it’s so close to home you can plan a weekend away easily.

If you are more interested in beach escapes, Mexico can take care of you, too! Popular Riviera Maya and Acapulco have long drawn American tourists. The country is not short on nature and adventure or history either. There’s simply no reason not visit!

Have you had enough? Well, we aren’t through just yet. We want to put the travel bug in your mind with two easy-to-reach European destinations. Europe? You bet! While you may want to use an extra day or two for these options, truly, these incredible destinations offer quick and direct flights, so a few days here make perfect sense! We bet you will love them as much as we do.
