Pienza – Where to Stay

1st: Historic Center (Centro Storico)
This is the UNESCO-protected core, the famous “Ideal City” designed for Pope Pius II. It is characterized by perfectly planned Renaissance architecture, narrow romantic alleys, and the town’s most iconic landmarks. It is completely pedestrianized and ideal for those wanting to be at the heart of the cultural and gastronomic scene.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Piazza Pio II, Pienza Cathedral, Palazzo Piccolomini, and the famous streets of Via dell Amore and Via del Bacio.

2nd: Borgo Rossellino (The Gateway)
Located immediately outside the western gate, this neighborhood acts as the transition between the ancient town and the newer parts of Pienza. It is a more practical area that still maintains a charming, lived-in feel. It is the best location for travelers who want to be steps from the historic center but with easier access to parking and local residential cafes.

This area encompasses the rolling hills, agricultural estates, and cypress-lined roads that fan out from the base of Pienza’s hill. It offers a rustic and tranquil experience, perfect for those seeking the postcard-perfect Tuscan landscape. This neighborhood is best explored by car or bike and provides direct access to the region’s famous trails.
Highlights of this neighborhood: Pieve di Corsignano, the Gladiator cypress trees, and scenic hiking paths leading toward the village of Monticchiello.
